Houston’s oil and gas industry is set to return as the driver of the Houston economy, propelled by higher prices, increased production and expanding international markets, according to a new economic forecast.

Opportunity Zones

Economic development is the cornerstone of any city or county's efforts to build its tax base.  A bigger tax base can mean more revenue for a taxing entity, which in turn can result in a better quality of life and improved services for residents. A federal program called Opportunity Zones — included in last year's Tax Cuts and Jobs Act — could help with local efforts to grow the tax base, though how that program will be rolled out is still unknown.
